This is the time where the market is flooded with laptops and other portable devices. But there is a large section of the crowd who prefer a desktop over the others. And for them, a high-end desktop is miles ahead of any laptop in the world. In this Dell XPS x8900-3131BLK review, we are going to take a look at one such desktop.
This new desktop comes with a nice list of specs that will satisfy the heavy user in you. That doesn’t mean this one is only for the power users. If you are willing to pay the price, then this desktop can be anyone’s everyday machine. But is it worth it? Let’s find that out.
Dell XPS x8900-3131BLK Desktop Review
This is a classic Dell desktop that comes in a tower form. There is nothing new in design here. It has a glossy front face with a matte finish on the other sides. There are 2 USB ports and a few media card readers you can use on the front side. The backside plays the host to the rest of the ports and jacks.
The backside is well ventilated as there is a fan and numerous gaps for hot air to escape. The desktop is not that heavy so minor shifting inside your room shouldn’t be that much of a problem. Overall, a done and dusted design which is still relevant.
The Dell XPS x8900-3131BLK has a lot of processing power. The Intel Core i7 6700 processor makes there is no lack of power. It clocks at 3.4GHz which is plenty and can reach up to 4 GHz when you need that extra push for certain scenarios. Even if you are a power user, this processor is the best for a consumer machine right now. It is based on Skylake and is more efficient.
The i7 chip is well supported by the DDR4 type RAM. We have 16 gigs of memory that is more than necessary for the majority of the users. If you are someone who enjoys doing more than one thing at a time, then you can multitask your heart out. You can run more than one system-intensive application at the same time and still feel no lag.
This is a desktop computer and with that, you get all the perks. The RAM can be upgraded further to a maximum of 32GB which is just excellent.
This is not a gaming desktop, but it still comes with a discrete graphics card. The graphics card here is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 745. It has a dedicated video memory of 4GB that is of DDR3 type. This is not a high-end GPU, but it is way better than the integrated graphics card in this processor.
The dell XPS desktop i7 10th generation graphics card gives a pretty decent 3DMark score and for the price of it, it is a good bargain. You can play most of the mid-range titles without any problems. Even some AAA games will run fine if you are willing to skimp on the setting. If your primary interest is in games like DOTA and League of Legends, you will have an excellent gaming experience.
Though the specs are top-end in this desktop, there is no monitor here. If you don’t have one already, be sure to get a nice widescreen display so that you can have both the goodness of resolution and also the productivity of a widescreen.
There is a huge amount of space in the 2TB 7200RPM hard drive that you can find on the Dell XPS x8900-3131BLK desktop. This particular hard drive is slightly faster than the 5400RPM drives but not as good as SSDs. If you value performance, then you should include a solid state drive and install the operating system on it.
The operating system is Windows 10. You should have already heard a lot about it, so we are not going to talk about it here.
The networking options in the Dell XPS x8900-3131BLK include Bluetooth and 802.11bgn. There are ports like USB ports, HDMI ports, and even media card reader to help you with connectivity.
This Dell desktop stands up to its name. It is made for the power user and justifies that claim. If you are willing to spend some money on a reliable desktop computer, then this one checks all the boxes.
